Spring in Kentucky is unlike any place I’ve ever lived. The countryside is covered in wildflowers and fresh green fields. The cooler temperatures and the warm sunshine make you want to stroll outside just a little longer, especially when you have a dog beside you.
If you’re looking for dog-friendly places in Central Kentucky to explore this spring and summer, Middle Springs Farm near Paris, Kentucky deserves a spot on your list. Tucked into the rolling hills of horse country, this farm feels like something out of a storybook.
This was also the perfect setting for Dominic’s recent portrait session. Dominic, the winner of Saved by Fate Rescue’s 2027 Calendar Contest. He arrived for his pet portrait session at the farm looking every bit like a superhero disguised as a dog.
Located about fifteen minutes outside of Paris, Kentucky, Middle Springs Farm has become one of the most charming seasonal destinations. Owned and operated by Justin and Susie Menke, the historic farm was purchased in 2021. Within a few years, they transformed their farm into a gathering place centered around seasonal experiences, community, and family traditions. Since opening to visitors in 2022, the farm has continued to grow with events like Daffodil Days, Easter celebrations, and their Memorial Day weekend Poppy Festival.. What makes Middle Springs Farm feel special isn’t just the scenery, though it is particulary breathtaking. It’s also the feeling that you’re being invited into a place that was created to be shared. Everywhere you look there are little moments designed for slowing down, wandering, and making memories with the people and pets you love most.
Some places simply work well for dogs, and Middle Springs Farm is one of them. There’s room to explore, quiet corners to sniff through, and enough open space that even more cautious dogs can settle into the environment comfortably. Instead of crowded sidewalks or noisy attractions, the farm offers a calmer pace that feels natural for both dogs and their humans. For photography, it’s a dream. The tall grasses, blooming flowers, weathered fences, and soft evening light create endless opportunities for portraits that feel timeless and connected to Kentucky’s landscape. Dogs also tend to reveal more of their personality in places like this. You can see it in the way they move through the fields, watch the wind, or suddenly decide they are the main character in their own countryside movie.
Dominic is not only one of Saved by Fate Rescue’s calendar contest winners, he’s our winner. This means his portrait is on the cover of every 2027 calendar. And from the moment he stepped onto the farm, he carried himself with this confidence of the celebrity he is.
Some dogs have goofy energy. Some are soft and shy. Dominic embodies super hero energy. Against the backdrop of a field of poppy fields, he managed to look both powerful and gentle at the same time.
Saved by Fate Rescue is a Kentucky-based rescue organization dedicated to helping dogs find safe, loving homes while giving them the second chances they deserve. Over the past several years, their annual calendar fundraiser has become a meaningful way for supporters to celebrate rescue dogs while helping raise money for future rescue efforts. The calendar contest winners receive portrait sessions that highlight not only their personalities, but also the lives they’ve built after rescue. Dominic’s session at Middle Springs Farm felt especially fitting. There was something about the openness of the landscape and the warmth of spring that reflected exactly what rescue is supposed to feel like: hopeful, joyful, and full of possibility.
Whether your dog is bold and larger than life like Dominic or soft and quietly observant, Central Kentucky offers some incredibly beautiful places to create memories together. If you’ve been thinking about planning a fine art dog photography session in Central Kentucky, spring and summer are some of the most beautiful times to do it.
