Move over, supermodels — Lexington’s newest cover girl is a four-legged queen with a heart of gold! Meet Cassie, the beloved pup who stole the show in the Lexington Top Dog contest. She earned her spot on a limited-edition beer can — all while helping raise thousands of dollars for Saved by Fate, a local dog rescue in Central Kentucky.
When I first photographed Cassie, I could tell she had something special. That golden hour glow, her soft soulful eyes, and the way she leaned lovingly into her human? Chef’s kiss. Cassie was born ready for the spotlight.
And what a spotlight it was — her face graced beer cans at Mirror Twin’s brewery.
This year’s contest was more than a popularity vote. It was a fundraiser, too. Each vote cost $1, and Cassie’s supporters generously donated! With 4,247 votes cast (outpacing the $3,000 goal for her entry) Cassie led the pack. Proof that true fans do more than just cheer. Cassie’s friends and family dig deep.
By contest end, over $15,300 had been raised in total for Saved by Fate,
Thanks to a partnership between Saved by Fate and Mirror Twin Brewing Co., the winning dog was featured on a special-edition beer label. Cassie’s portrait stood tall at the label release party at Mirror Twin on July 11th
What a great way to toast rescue dogs!
Funds for Rescue: Every dollar from voting and beer sales supports Saved by Fate’s mission — rescuing dogs and offering affordable spay/neuter programs.
Community Engagement: Dogs like Cassie deepen the bond between local businesses (like Mirror Twin) and animal-lovers in Lexington.
Pet Photography Showcase: Portraits that tug at the heart can also open doors for rescue campaigns — plus future clients!
Whether your dog is a rescue superstar or just a fun-loving friend, contests like this help pets and rescues alike. And if you want a standout portrait to accompany your dog in next year’s contest, or for your own pup’s portfolio, I’d love to help create that photo magic.
