If you’re a dog parent looking for dog-friendly spots in Lexington, KY, you are in the right spot. You already know this city is full of charm—and plenty of places to explore with your pup. But did you know Lexington also has some of the most picture-perfect dog-friendly locations?

As a professional pet photographer, I’ve scouted the best spots for  your pet portraits.

Whether your dog is a zoomie-loving adventurer or a chill snuggle buddy, here are my favorite dog-friendly locations in Lexington for unforgettable pet photos.

1. Gratz Park – Historic Charm Meets Tail Wags

Gratz Park is a slice of Lexington history, with cobblestone paths, charming architecture, and old trees that provide the perfect backdrop. Dogs love exploring the shaded grass, and you’ll love the timeless portraits that come out of this spot.

Best for: Dogs that like to be around public, family portraits with pets, or anyone who loves Lexington’s historic charm and Downtown Vibe..

2. The Arboretum – Nature at Its Finest

Known as “The State Botanical Garden of Kentucky,” the Arboretum is filled with vibrant flowers, lush greenery, and scenic walking trails. It’s basically a dream playground for dogs and cameras.

Best for: Seasonal sessions—spring blooms, fall colors, and summer greens make every visit unique.

3. Jacobson Park – Wide Open Spaces

One of  Lexington’s largest parks, and it’s perfect for dogs who love to run and play. From rolling fields, the Pine Forest, the beautiful lake, and  the fenced-in dog park area, Jacobson Park gives us room to capture both playful action shots and sweet, quiet moments.

Best for: High-energy pups who need room to zoom!

Lexington is home to several dog-friendly breweries, like Mirror Twin and The Burl These spots are fun for capturing your pup’s personality in a casual, urban setting—with a beer in your hand!

Best for: Social dogs, lifestyle sessions, and pups who love being the center of attention.

Bonus: Your Own Backyard or Family Farm

Sometimes the best photos come from a place your dog already knows and loves. Whether it’s your fenced yard, a family farm, or even your cozy living room, a familiar space can bring out relaxed, natural expressions.

Best for: Dogs who are most comfortable at home or pet parents who want a more personal touch.
